As the web developers and digital marketing agency of the New Orleanian Mardi Gras parade, Krewe of Cleopatra, Chainlink created the online experience for the Krewe and its riders. The parade itself and the various events leading up to it require sophisticated internal and external digital communications and marketing designed by our team.
The Krewe of Cleopatra website is home to multiple moving parts that allow the parade and its associated events to run smoothly. In this blog post, we’re giving an overview of how an organization like the Krewe of Cleopatra maximizes different digital strategies to get the most out of their website and online presence.

1) The Krewe’s Membership and Ecommerce Store Management
2) Customer Service for Krewe riders
3) The Krewe’s Email Communications
We’ll also share the creative work that we produced based on the Krewe’s theme this year.
1) Cleopatra Membership and Ecommerce Store Management
Instead of relying on a manual records and bookkeeping, the automated digital processes and customer database that Chainlink set up and maintains for the Krewe of Cleopatra allows the krewe to continue to grow and expand. There is a straightforward application process in which prospective members fill out a form which is then reviewed for approval. When an application is approved, the member receives an email sent from the Chainlink Marketing Platform with the relevant information to complete the registration process and gain access to the Membership Area.
The Membership Area of the Krewe of Cleopatra, only accessible after logging in, is an exclusive and integral part of the site. The member area is where each member can log in to view their dues payment status, and access the members-only ecommerce store that sells packages of beads and other prizes to throw off the float during the parade. Chainlink built a customized system for riders to purchase layaway items as well.
Members can also buy additional tickets for guests to event leading up to the parade such as the Masquerade Gala. All of these transactions are facilitated through the online store Chainlink developed as well.
2) Customer Service
Chainlink integrated the chat box with a service called Chatlio, which easily facilitates the communication because the Krewe of Cleopatra Support Team and riders who have questions. The system that Chainlink set in place is different than your average automated chatbot.
Although the chat box delivers some automated responses to let users know when a response in coming soon, it’s not an artificial intelligence (AI) powered chatbot that regurgitates the same responses. The Krewe of Cleopatra Support team responds to every message (or follows up with an email if they miss the message). This technology allows for more immediate and human way for riders to get in touch with the Krewe Support.
3) Email Communications
To make sure that the appropriate emails were properly delivered and opened, the Chainlink Platform provides an email program summary. This is great to verify the delivery of email programs and view open rates and bounce rates. The Cleopatra marketing team has all rider information and purchase history stored in the Chainlink Marketing Platform. This makes it super easy to integrate the list of riders with the email programs.
Also it’s easy to create dashboards and reports using the platform to view the performance of email programs and interpret them easily.
Another service Chainlink provided for the Krewe of Cleopatra was the creative elements of their “Animated Adventures” theme for the 2019 parade.
This was a unique undertaking, because even though our team has the skills to produce this kind of creative work, it is not typically something our clients request from us. The Krewe was thrilled that Chainlink was able to transform the character of Cleopatra into a cartoon superhero with a captivating digital narrative. The Cleopatra themed story includes a digital flipbook and even two videos.
